How to Care

Terracotta — Italian for “baked earth” — is a porous clay that is manually mixed and formed, resulting in texture and pattern variations that speak to each piece’s individual nature. The clay is shaped on a potter’s wheel and smoothed, then left to dry for a few days before being fired in a traditional furnace called a Bhatti. Locally sourced fuel, such as dry coconut leaves and small pieces of wood, contribute to the unique look of each piece.

• Address spills immediately by wiping with a dry, soft cloth.
• Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
• Avoid use of cleaning products with acid, vinegar, lemon and ammonia, as well as gritty cloths and scouring compounds — abrasive ingredients and materials can damage terracotta.
• Use a neutral cleaner specifically formulated for clay surfaces and avoid applying too much water.
